In the first one day of the 5 match series, world champions India easily beat host West Indies by 4 wickets with 31 balls remaining on Monday, 6th June, 2011 at Port of Spain. WI made 214/9 in 20 overs and IND made 217/6 in 44.5 overs.
West Indies after winning the toss lost 2 early wickets on 28 runs but Sarwan and Samuels hit 56 and 55 runs respectively at a slow pace due to tight bowling by Bhajji who took 3 wickets for 32 runs and there was no fire work in the end and they managed only 214/9. Praveen, Munaf and Raina took 2 wickets each.
India also lost 2 wickets early but opener Shikhar Dhawan hit 51 runs and when they struggling at 104/4, Rohit Sharma hit unbeaten 68 runs and well supported by captain Raina with 43 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
