Ind vs NZ 3rd Test Result - Match Drawn | India win Series in New Zealand after 41 years

Rain denied a deserving victory to India on the 5th day of the 3rd and final test match against New Zealand, but India recorded their first series triumph in 41 years, on Tuesday, 7th April 2009 at Wellington. India were just 2 wickets away from win when rain arrived on final day.

New Zealand started the day from 167/4 and overnight batsman Taylor and Franklin put a 142 runs partnership, contributed 107 and 49 runs respectively.

India should have blamed themselves for draw and 2-0 win due to poor fielding and late draw. Good thing is that, India ended their long wait of 41 years to win a Test series in New Zealand after Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi-led side drubbed the Kiwis 3-1 in 1968. India also won the 5 match ODI series by 3-1.

Match Summary:

India 1st Inning - 379 all out in 92.1 overs.

New Zealand 1st Inning -197 all out in 65 overs.

India 2nd Inning -434/7 dec. in 116 overs.

Toss -New Zealand, who chose to field first.

Result - Match Drawn.

Man of The Match - Gautam Gambhir (India).
