India won the Asia Cup after 15 years, beat Sri Lanka by 81 runs in the final. Dinesh Karthik got Man of the Match while Pakistan's Shahid Afridi got Man of the Series for his 2 centuries in the series.








Ind v SL Asia Cup Final Result - India won the Asia Cup, beat Sri Lanka by 81 runs


India finally won the Asia cup after 15 years as they beat host Sri Lanka by 81 runs in the Final on Thursday, 24th June, 2010 at Dambulla. Ind made 268/6 in 50 overs and bowled out SL on 187 runs in 44.4 overs.

India got a good start by Karthik and Gambhir with 38 runs in 6 overs and India made a competitive total of 268/6 as Karthik hit 66 runs well supported by Dhoni 38 and Rohit Sharma 41 runs.

Indian bowlers then bowled superbly as Praveen got danger man Dilshan on duck and then Zaheer and Nehra reduced Sri Lanka to 51-5 with 2 and 4 wickets respectively. Kapugedra hit unbeaten 55 runs in the end to reduce the margin of loss.

Dinesh Karthik got Man of the Match while Pakistan's Shahid Afridi got Man of the Series for his 2 centuries in the series.

India - 268/6 in 50 overs overs (Karthik 66, Rohit 41, Dhoni 38)
Sri Lanka -187 out in 44.4 overs (Kapugedra 55*, Nehra 4-40, Zaheer 2-36)

In a thrilling 4th match of Asia Cup 2010, India beat arch rival Pakistan on the 2nd last ball by 3 wickets on Saturday, 19th June, 2010 at Dambulla. Pak all out on 267 runs in 49.3 overs and Ind made 271/7 in49.5 overs.

Pakistan won the toss elected to bat first made 267 runs thanks to 74 runs by opener Salman Butt well supported by Malik 39 and Afridi 32 runs but Kamran Akmal hit quickfire in the end with 41 balls 51 runs to set a competitive total.

India lost Sehwag early but Gambhir hit 83 runs and put 98 runs with Dhoni who hit 56 runs and they were 180/2 in 35 overs but few quick wickets put them in backfoot but then Raina hit 27 balls 34 runs before out in the last over with 6 runs required in 4 balls and Harbhajan hit a six on the 2nd last ball to seal a thrilling win.

Bangladesh started well by Tamim and Kayes and they were 81/1 in 13 overs but after spinners introduced they slumped to 167 all out as Sehwag took 4 wickets for just 6 runs in 3 overs. In an interesting low scoring 1st match of Asia Cup 2010, host Sri Lanka survive Shahid Afridi's 76 balls 109 runs and beat Pakistan by 16 runs on Tuesday, 15th June, 2010 at Dambulla. SL made 242/9 in 50 overs and Pak bowled out on 226 runs in 47 overs.

Sri Lanka made to 242 thanks to Sangakkra's 42, in-form Jayawardhane's 54 and in the end Mathews hit 55 runs to get a respectable score as come back fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar bowled brilliantly with 3 wickets for 41 runs.

Pakistan then reduced to 32-4 but Afridi played a brilliant inning of 109 runs off 76 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes but Sangakkra took great catch to out him and match turned towards host as Malinga took 5 wickets in the end.

Indian selectors announced team on Monday, 7th June for Asia Cup 2010 starting from 15th June, and requested Sachin Tendulkar on his request and included Jharkhan and Mumbai Indians batsman Saurabh Tiwary in the 15-man squad.

Other big changers are exclusion of Yuvraj Singh who is struggling with wrist injury and Yusuf Pathan who hasn't been able to replicate his IPL success in international cricket. Zaheer, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Gambhir, Praveen Kumar and Nehra returns in the team.

Ashok Dinda and R Ashwin retained their place from the team toured Zimbabwe. Saurabh Tiwary performed well in IPL3 with 3 half centuries while scored three centuries in five games at an average of 98.83 in Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand.
