Sri lanka won 5th ODI by 68 Runs - India won the series 4-1


Finally host Sri Lanka fought well in the series to avoid white wash as they won 5th and final match by 68 runs against India on Sunday, 8th February, 2009 at Colombo. India won the 5 match series by 4-1.

Sri Lanka won their first toss of the series and elected to bat scored 320 runs in 50 overs thanks to Dilshan and Sangakkara made 97 off 117 balls with 9 fours and 84 off 70 balls 8 fours and a six respectively. Ishanth Sharma took 3 wickets.

In Reply India lost early wickets as they reduced to 9 for 2 but Yuraj, Dhoni and Jadeja made 73, 53 and 60 not out toshow some resistance.

Match Summary:

Sri Lanka - 320/8 in 50 overs.

India - 252 all out in 48.5 overs.

Toss - Sri Lanka, who chose to bat first.

Result - Sri Lanka won by 68 runs.

Man of The Match - Kumara Sangakkara (Sri Lanka).

Two sparkling centuries from Yuraj Singh and Virendar Sehwag helped India won the third ODI as well as taken unbeatable lead of 3-0 in the 5 match series on Tuesday, 3rd February, 2009 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India won 3rd ODI by 147 runs.

India won the toss again and elected to bat first and reduced to 24/2 but a 221 run partnership between Sehwag made 116 runs off 90 balls with 17 fours and Yuraj, made 117 runs off 95 balls with 17 fours and a six helped India to score a huge traget of 363 in 50 overs thanks to hard hitting by Yusuf Pathan in the end scored 59 off just 38 balls.

Sri Lankas only way of celebration was Muralitharan's record of equalling Wasim Akram's highest ODI wickets with 502. Only Sangakkara made clasy 83 runs in the chase and all out on 216 in 41.4 overs.

India - 363/5 in 50 overs.

Sri Lanka - 216 all out in 41.4 overs.

Toss - India, who chose to bat first.

Result - India won by 147 runs.

The First test of two match series between host India and England will begin from Thursday, 11th December, 2008 to Monday, 15th December, 2008 atMA Chidambaram Stadium, 9.30 AM IST. India is going to the series after thrashing world champion Australia by 2-0 in tests and England by 5-0 in ODI's just before the series interrupted due to Mumbai Terror attack.

India can move to 2nd place in ICC Test Ranking if they won the series even by 1-0. In form batsman Yuraj Singh will fill the place of retired Ganguly while Gautam Gambhir will return after 1 match ban. Zaheer Khan and Ishanth Sharma will head pace department whil Amit Mishra and Harbhajan Singh take care of spin.

England down after 5-0 thrash in ODI's but took brave decision in resuming the series will be under pressure to perform well. Off spiner Graeme Swann will make debut for England with the sacrifice of in form batsman Owais Shah.

Yuraj Singh's 2nd consecetive century in as many matches helped India to win the 2nd ODI against England by 54 runs at Indore on Monday, 17th November, 2008. India won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 292/9 in 50 overs and all out England on 238 runs.

India started badly with 3 quick wickets on 29/3 but 134 runs 4th wicket partnership between Gambhir and Yuraj, scored 70 runs and 118 runs respectively put them back into the game and a late assault by Yusuf Pathan hit 50 runs off just 29 balls with 2 fours and 4 six.

Yuvraj is in great form in his 2nd back to back hundred 118 runs off 122 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes continuing from his 1st match of 138 runs. Yuraj also took 4 wickets and was enough to take 2nd man of the match award.

England never in the position to chase down required runs as they lost wickets at regular intervals. 96 runs 2nd wicket and 74 runs 4th wicket partnership made some hope but Yuraj got Flintoff and Pietersen in the same over demolished their chances.

Yuraj Singh's 138 runs in just 78 balls set a crushing win for India against England in the 1st ODI on Friday, 14th Nov, 2008 at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground, Rajkot. England won the toss and invited India to bat 1st and scored 387/5 in 50 overs and restricted England to 229 all out.

India got a flurring start with the openaers Sehwag and gambhir put 127 runs in just 20 overs with Sehwag hit 85 runs off 73 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes and Gambhir scored 51 runs.

But the real push was from Yuraj Singh as he was in brilliant form and hit fastest ODI century against England with 16 fours and 6 sixes. This is also the highest run against England.

In reply Zaheer khan push England on the back foot with 3 wickets and the reduced to 76/5 but Pietersen and Bopara shown some fight with hal centuries, but all out on 229 runs in 37.4 overs.

India -
387/5 in 50 overs.

England - 229 all out 37.4 overs.

Toss - England, who chose to field first.

Result - India won by 158 runs.
