India won the ODI Series by 2-1 after 4th ODI washed out due to Rain

India clinched the 4 match ODI series by 2-1 against host West Indies, as 4th ODI called off due to heavy rain after just 7.3 overs of play on Sunday, 5th July 2009 at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. This is the fifth straight ODI series victory for India and only the second in West Indies.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first and Ishanth Sharma took the wicket of danger man captain Chris Gayle on the 2nd ball of the match. Heavy rain started in the 8th overs which forced the match to be called off after just 7.3 overs and West Indies 27/1.

MS Dhoni awarded with Man of the Series for his 182 runs in 3 innings at an average of 91.00 highest in the series.

Match Summary:

West Indies - 27/1 in 7.3 overs.

Toss -India, who chose to bowl first.

Result - No Result - Match abandoned due to rain.

Series Result - India won the 4 match series by 2-1.

India leading the 4 match series by 2-1 after 3 matches.

India have not lost the series after a win in the rain shortened 3rd ODI. Skipper Dhoni batted well under pressure to guide his team for victory. Openers Gautam Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik once again have to give a good start to clinch the series.

West Indies will be under pressure to save the series at home and have to win this match. Runako Morton and Ramnaresh Sarwan batting well but they need more support from other players as well.

India won the 1st match but lost 2nd match with a huge margin as entire batting line up flopped except captain Dhoni and they have to perform well in order to take a lead. Gambhir and Rohit Sharma's form is a bit worry for team.

West Indies bounced back strongly and they will be high in confidence after a big win in 2nd game. Ravi Rampaul shattered the Indian batting line up while Runako Morton was unbeaten with 86 and averaging 127.00 in the series.

West Indies won the 2nd ODI comfortably by 8 wickets with 95 balls remaining against India to level the four match series by 1-1 on Sunday, 28th June, 2009 at Kingston Jamaica. Ind bowled out on 188 in 48.2 overs and WI eayly made 192/2 in 34.1 overs.

India won the toss and elected to bat 1st but reduced to 7/3 the Yuraj Singh (35) and Dhoni tokk the score to 54 runs in 12 overs and again India collapsed to 82/8 in 21 overs Thanks to finr bowling by Ravi Rampaul's career best bowling of 37/4 in 10 overs. Dhoni then played a captain inning of 95 runs and put a 101 runs 9th wicket partnership with RP Singh (23) to take the total to a respectable score of 188 runs.

West Indies chased the modest total easily in 34.1 overs with the liost of only 2 wickets as Gayle and Morton put 101 runs for the 1st wicket in just 15 overs contributed 64 runs and 85 runs respectively.

Match Summary:

India - 188 all out in 48.2 overs.

West Indies - 192/2 in 34.1 overs.

Toss -India, who chose to bat first.

Man of The Match - Ravi Rampaul (West Indies)

Result - West Indies won by 8 wickets (with 95 balls remaining).

India won the 1st ODI by 20 runs as Yuvraj Singh was on fire and they have to put similar show to take unbeatable lead in the series. Their only worry would be the form of opener Gautam Gambhir specially against rising deliveries and they will probably go with the same team.

West Indies fought well in chasing the huge total of 339 runs but they were short by just 20 runs in the end. They have to win this match to level the series other wise their only option will be to draw the series.

In a high scoring 1st ODI of 4 match series, India beat host West Indies in a high scoring thriller by 20 runs 0n Friday, 26th June, 2009 at Kingston, Jamaica. Ind made 339/6 in 50 overs and WI all out on 319 runs in 48.1 overs.

India scored 339/6 in 50 overs thanks to Yuraj Singh's 11th ODI century, who hit 131 runs off 102 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes in his inning well supported by Dinesh Karthik who made 67 runs and put 135 runs for the 3rd wicket. In the end Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh made 41 runs to take the total to 339 runs with 40 runs off 38 balls and 21 runs off 13 balls. Dhni also contributed with 41 runs.

West Indies replied well with 65 runs 1st wicket patnership btween Gayle (37) and Morton (42) and then Sarwan and Chanderpaul contributed 45 runs and 63 runs respectively but wickets at intervals result in 20 runs short. Yusuf Pathan and Ashish Nehra took 3 wickets each.

Match Summary:

India -339/6 in 50 overs.

West Indies - 319 runs all out in 48.1 overs.

India will start their four match ODI series against host West Indies with 1st ODI on Friday, 26th June, 2009 at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica in a day match starting from 09:30 local, 14:30 GMT, 8.00 PM IST.

India want to start a fresh after the disaster in just ended Twenty20 World Cup where they eliminated in the 2nd round without winning a single match in Super8 round. They are without 4 key players Sehwag, Tendulkar, Zaheer and Raina. Rohit Sharma may continue as opener or M Viajay will do the opening with Gambhir. Nehra may find a place in playing 11 after good show in IPL2.

West Indies will try to continue their good form of T20 WC where they reached to semifinals and comfortably defeated world champions Australia in the 1st round. Dwayne Bravo is in good touch and his brother Darren also included in the team. Chris Gayle is also in good touch but they will definitely miss Fidel Edward who is out due to injury.
