Airtel wins India corporate sponsorship rights for 3 years at a price of Rs 3.33 Crores

Bharti Airtel - India's largest telecom company, has won the corporate sponsorship rights for all international series played in India for the next three years. Airtel won the bid at a cost of Rs 3.33 ($707,545) crores per match, which covers Tests, ODIs and Twenty20 games.

Airtel outbid 10other companies on their way to win the race, including Idea Cellular, the telecom company from the Birla group, and cell phone makers Karbonn Mobile and MicroMax. It is the first time international cricket in India will have a regular tournament and series sponsor, like England does with nPower or Australia with Vodafone.

Airtel is also the lead sponsor for the Champions League Twenty20, having paid a reported Rs 170 crore ($36 million) for a five-year period. The company also bid for the rights to sponsor the Indian team earlier this year, but lost out to the Sahara Group.

India finally got all the things right with both bat and ball and registered their first win in the Micromax tri-series as they beat host Sri Lanka by 6 wickets with 93 balls remaining and got a bonus point on Monday, 16th August, 2010 at Dambulla. SRL all out on 170 runs in 46.1 overs and IND made 171/4 in 34.3 overs.

India started well with first ball wicket and Sri Lanka never back in the match despite Dilshan's 45 nad Randiv's 43 runs and all out on 170 runs with Ojha took 3 wickets and Praveen Kumar took 2 wickets. India then reduced to 32-3 but Sehwag played beautifully with unbeaten 99 runs off 100 balls and make sure that India got a bonus point. Sehwag missed a well deserved century despite hit a six on the last ball but match was over due to no ball.

In a thrilling match of test cricket India beat host Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the 3rd and final test and level the series 1-1 on Saturday, 7th August, 2010 at Colombo. Sri Lanka won the 1st test while 2nd test was drawn.

Match was well poised at the start of 5th and final day as India needed 204 runs with 7 wickets in hand but Sachin Tendulkar (54) and VVS Laxman put 109 runs for the 5th wickets to avoid and drama. Laxman hit a brilliant century under pressure with unbeaten 103 runs to guide India level the series and maintain their top test ranking. Suresh Raina also contributed with quick 45 balls 41 runs.

VVs Laxman got Man of the Match for his brilliant century of 103 not out and 56 runs in the 1st inning while Virender Sehwag got Man of the Series for his 348 runs in 5 innings.

Host Sri Lanka and India will meet for the second test match starting from Monday, 26th July to Friday, 30th July, 2010 at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo and timing will be 04:30 GMT, 10:00 local, 10:00 IST. Sri Lanka leading the 3 match series by 1-0.

India lost the first match and if they want to win this series they have to bounce back and their big concern is weak bowling attack as they took only 8 wickets in 1st test. Opener Gautam Gambhir is doubtful due to injury and decision will be taken before the match and Murali Vijay may take his place. Munaf Patel may also included in place of Ojha if India bowls first.
