IND v NZL 2nd ODI Result - Gambhir's century ensures 8 wickets win


Gautam Gambhir is back in form with an unbeaten century as India comfortably chased 258 runs and won the 2nd one day by 8 wickets against New Zealand on Wednesday, 1st December, 2010 at Jaipur. NZL made 258/8 in 50 overs and IND made 259/2 in 43 overs.

New Zealand put a competitive total of 258/8 thanks to 70 runs by opener Guptill and 59 runs by Scott Styris with quick runs by Vettori & Mills in the end as Sreessanth took 4 wickets. In reply India got a good start with 87 runs partnership for the opening wicket by Vijay 33 and Gambhir. Gambhir then put 116 runs for the 2nd wicket with Kohli 64, on his way to his 8th one day century with unbeaten 138 runs off 116 balls with 18 fours and set an easy 8 wicket win with 42 balls remaining and takes 2-0 lead in the 5 match series.

Match Summary:

New Zealand - 258/8 all out in 50 overs (Guptill 70, Styris 59, Sreesanth 4-47)

India - 259/2 in 43 overs (Gambhir 138*, Kohli 64)

Toss - India, who chose to bowl first.

Man of the Match - Gautam Gambhir (India)

Result - India won by 8 wickets (with 42 balls remaining)

Series - India led the 5 match series by 2-0.

Second one day international between host India and New Zealand will be played on Wednesday, 1st December, 2010 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur in a day-night game and timing will be 9:00 GMT, 14:30 IST. India leading the 5 match series by 1-0.

India won the 1st ODI comfortably without their star players as Virat Kohli hit 2nd century in a row and contributions from Gambhir, Yuvraj and Yusuf while Suresh Raina needs some runs in the middle order. R Ashwin bowled well and took wickets at regular intervals.

New Zealand missed Brandon McCullum at the top of the order and Jesse Ryder in the middle order as only Ross Taylor did well with the bat before bowlers scored some quick runs in the end. Their bowlers did well to restrict India below 300 runs.

India won the first one day against New Zealand by 40 runs and took the 1-0 lead in 5 match ODI series. Virat Kohli got Man of the Match for his 4th one day and second consecutive century.

India beat New Zealand by 40 runs in the opening ODI and took the 1-0 lead in 5 match series on Sunday, 28th November, 2010 at Guwahati. IND made 276 runs in 49 overs and NZL made 236 runs in 45.2 0vers.

India invited to bat first got a good start by Vijay 29 and Gambhir 38 and then Kohli and Yuvraj 42 put 88 runs for the third wicket and after Virat Kohli hit his 4th ODI century, his 2nd in a row they were looking for a 300+ runs but lower order collapsed and all out on 276 runs. Kohli hit 105 runs off 104 balls with 10 fours while Yusuf Pathan hit 19 balls 29 runs in the end. McKay took 4 wickets for New Zealand.

New Zealand in the reply lost regular wickets as only Ross Taylor made 66 runs in the middle and they were struggling on 169/8 after 35 overs and then Nathan McCullum 35 runs and Mills 32 runs put 67 runs in 10 overs for the 9th wicket and put some fighting the end but Sresanth took both the wickets in 2 balls to give India a 40 runs win.

India - 276 all out in 49 overs (Kohli 105, Yuvraj 42, McKay 4-62)

New Zealand - 236 all out in 45.2 overs (Taylor 66, N McCullum 35, Sreesanth 3-30)

First of the 5 match one day series between host India and New Zealand will be played on Sunday, 28th November, 2010 at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati in a day game starting from morning 3:00 GMT, 8:30 IST.

India won the final test but will be without Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer and Harbhajan. Gambhir will lead the team and he needs to score some runs along with Raina. But all eyes will be on hard hitter Yusuf Pathan who is returning after scoring some runs in the domestic and if he will click he ca stable the lower middle order and R Ashwin who has done extremely well in IPL and CLt20 games.

After decent performance in test series, New Zealand is ready for limited over series. Return of Scott Styris, Daryl Tuffey and Kamie How will boost their moral as Brandon McCullum in good touch but need good contribution from Ross Taylor in the absence of Jesse Ryder.

Indian selectors announced the ODI squad for the first 2 match of the 5 match series against New Zealand starting from 28th November, 2010. Gautam Gambhir will lead the team as regular captain MS Dhoni has been rested along with Tendulkar, Harbhajan and Sehwag.

Bengal wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha will make his ODI debut after scoring century in Ranji as Dinesh Karthik ignored. All rounder Yusuf Pathan made his come back after scoring 89 runs off 42 balls against Gujrat and 195 runs off 138 balls in Ranji against Haryana.

Ind vs NZL 3rd Test 3rd Day review - Dravid's 191 runs set a lead of 373 runs, NZL 24/1 in 2nd inning

Rahul Dravid missed his 6th double century while Dhoni missed his 5th test century but India took control of the third and final test with 373 runs lead in the first inning and also took 1 wicket of New Zealand at the stumps of day 3. New Zeakand has tough task ahead with 2 days to go and trailing by 349 runs with 9 wickets remaining.

Sachin Tendulkar missed his 50th test century but Rahul Dravid marched on slowly to his century and after that he and Dhoni accelerate the inning and took the match away from New Zealand. Dhoni was cramping and soon out on 98 runs while Dravid scored 191 runs and soon after India declared their inning on 566/8 with the lead of 373 runs.

So watch out for the 4th day as India will try to win the test as well as series.

After two draws host India and New Zealand will try to win the third and final test and clinch the series starting from Saturday, 20th November, 2010 at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur and timing will be from morning 4:00 GMT, 9:30 IST. 3 match series is currently level at 0-0.

India has to blame to their poor bowling as they were unable to take a lead in the low placed opponent. Indian batsmen are contributing well along with Harbhajan, who scored two centuries but not doing his main work i.e. taking wickets. Raina and Dhoni has yet to contribute in the series while Zaheer is ruled out and will be replace by Ishant Sharma.

New Zealand will be very happy with their performance so far against the no.1 test team and McCullm, McIntosh, Ryder and Williamson continues with their good form they can again give a challenge to weak Indian bowling attack.

Second test match between India and New Zealand drawn after a wonderful maiden double century by opener Brandon McCullum on the 5th and final day on 16th November, 2010 at Hyderabad. 3 match series is currently level at 0-0.

New Zealand started the final day from 237/4 with a lead of 115 runs and match could go in favour of India if they lost early wickets but overnight pair McCullum and Williamson and put century partnership in the first session and took the match away from home. After lunch McCullum hit his first double century and out on 225 runs but already saved match for his team and at tea they declared their inning on 448/8 and set a target of 323 runs in 30 overs.

India then batted for 17 overs and made 68/0 as Sehwag scored run a ball 54 runs.

Brandon McCulllum got Man of the Match for his brilliant double century.

India started the day from 178/2 but lost Tendulkar early and then Dravid 46 and Laxman 74 runs scored slowly and managed only 59 runs in the first session.
