Pak vs SL Asia Cup 1st Match Result - Afridi's century in vain lost to Sri Lanka by 16 Runs

In an interesting low scoring 1st match of Asia Cup 2010, host Sri Lanka survive Shahid Afridi's 76 balls 109 runs and beat Pakistan by 16 runs on Tuesday, 15th June, 2010 at Dambulla. SL made 242/9 in 50 overs and Pak bowled out on 226 runs in 47 overs.

Sri Lanka made to 242 thanks to Sangakkra's 42, in-form Jayawardhane's 54 and in the end Mathews hit 55 runs to get a respectable score as come back fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar bowled brilliantly with 3 wickets for 41 runs.

Pakistan then reduced to 32-4 but Afridi played a brilliant inning of 109 runs off 76 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes but Sangakkra took great catch to out him and match turned towards host as Malinga took 5 wickets in the end.

Sri Lanka - 242/9 in 50 overs (Mathews 55, Jayawardhane 54, Akhtae 3-41)

Pakistan - 226 all out in 47 overs overs (Afridi 109, Malinga 5-34)

Toss - Sri Lanka, who chose to bat first.

Result - Sri Lanka won by 16 runs.

Opening One Day of the 4 nation Asia Cup 2010 will be played between Pakistan and Sri Lank on Tuesday, 15th June, 2010 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, and timing will be 09:00 GMT, 14:30 local, 14:30 IST, 15:00 PST.

This match is a test for Pakistan as two key players, Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik are doing ome back in the team. Akhtar's bowling will be crucial for them while opening was good in T20 WC and Umar Amin may got a debut.

Sri Lank just won tri-series in Zimbabwe with their 2nd string team while captain Sangakkara and Jayawardhane got a much needed break and they can start a fresh at home. Muralitharan is also coming back while Rangna Herath was surprise call.

Indian Team, Squad for Asia Cup 2010 - Sachin rested, Saurabh Tiwary in, Yuvraj, Pathan out

Indian selectors announced team on Monday, 7th June for Asia Cup 2010 starting from 15th June, and requested Sachin Tendulkar on his request and included Jharkhan and Mumbai Indians batsman Saurabh Tiwary in the 15-man squad.

Other big changers are exclusion of Yuvraj Singh who is struggling with wrist injury and Yusuf Pathan who hasn't been able to replicate his IPL success in international cricket. Zaheer, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Gambhir, Praveen Kumar and Nehra returns in the team.

Ashok Dinda and R Ashwin retained their place from the team toured Zimbabwe. Saurabh Tiwary performed well in IPL3 with 3 half centuries while scored three centuries in five games at an average of 98.83 in Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand.

Pakistan selectors recalled two Shoaibs, Akhtar and Malik for the upcoming Micromax Asia Cup 2010 in Sri Lanka. Akhtar was out of action for last 1 year while Malik was banned for 1 year by PCB but last month judicial judgment allowed him to play again for country.

Many new faces Shahzaib Hasan, who played in T20 World Cup 2010, Umar Amin and Asad Shafiq has been included in the ODI team for the first time.
