Ceat International Cricket Aeard - Gambhir Cricketer of the year, Sehwag ODI Batsman


Indian in form batsman Gautam Gambhir won the International cricketer of the year as well as test batsman of the year award in a gala event of Ceat International cricket Awards on Sunday, 29th November, 2009 at Mumbai.

Gambhir scored 4 consecutive centuries in last 4 matches and he is in great form during 2008-09 season. Hard hitter nad Gamghir's opening partner Virender Sehwag won the ODI batsman of the year award.

Australian Mitchel Johnson won the test bowler of the year award while Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis won the ODI Bowler of the year award.

Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh won a special award by taking 300 test wickets. Sri Lanka batsman Thilan Samaraweera who got injured in the Lahore terror attack in March won the International Spirit of Cricket award.

Lifetime Achievement award has given to EAS Prasanna of India by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

A fiery inning of 125 runs off just 74 balls with 14 fours and 6 sixes helped not only to win the 4th ODI but also sealed series win by 3-0 for India after a long time in New Zealand on Wednesday, 11th March, 2009 at Hamilton. India won the match by 84 runs under Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain interrupted game.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first scored 270 runs in 47 overs in a rain shorten match thanks to McCullum and McGlashan scored 77 and 56 not out respectively.

In reply, Sehwag made fastest century by an Indian and the seventh fastest in one-day international history which comes in just 60 balls. In the absence of injured Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir stepped into the opener's role and added 63 runs and put 201 runs unbeaten partnership in just 23.3 overs when rain interrupted for the final time.

India put behind their defeat in T20 series and displayed superb performance and won the first ODI by 53 runs against host New Zealand in a rain shortened match at McLean Park, Napier in a day-night game. India leading the 5 match series by 1-0.

India won the toss and elected to bat first in a delayed match shorten to 38 overs scored 273 runs thanks to Sehwag made 77 off 56 balls with 11 fours and a six, man of the match Dhoni was unbeaten on 84 rund off 89 balls and Raina played a special inning of 66 runs off 39 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, yusuf also contributed 10 balls 20 runs.

New Zealand lost their inform batsman Brandon McCullum on duck and they were out of match after rain interruption and got a revised target of 216 in 28 overs. Harbhajan took 3 wickets in 4 balls well supported by Praveen Kumar took 2 wickets.

Two sparkling centuries from Yuraj Singh and Virendar Sehwag helped India won the third ODI as well as taken unbeatable lead of 3-0 in the 5 match series on Tuesday, 3rd February, 2009 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India won 3rd ODI by 147 runs.

India won the toss again and elected to bat first and reduced to 24/2 but a 221 run partnership between Sehwag made 116 runs off 90 balls with 17 fours and Yuraj, made 117 runs off 95 balls with 17 fours and a six helped India to score a huge traget of 363 in 50 overs thanks to hard hitting by Yusuf Pathan in the end scored 59 off just 38 balls.

Sri Lankas only way of celebration was Muralitharan's record of equalling Wasim Akram's highest ODI wickets with 502. Only Sangakkara made clasy 83 runs in the chase and all out on 216 in 41.4 overs.

Sri Lanka - 216 all out in 41.4 overs.

on a very interesting 4th day of first test match between India and England at Chennai England set a target of 387 runs and India replied positively made 131/1 at the stumps of day 4 needs another 256 runs on the 5th and final day of the match. Sehwag hit a cracking 83 off just 68 balls to make the match live and interesting.

England started the day from their overnight score of 172/3 and reached 277 runs as both Strauss and Collingwood hit centuries, 108 runs each. This was Strauss 2nd century of the match followed by 1st inning's 123 runs. England declared soon after tean on 311/9 and set a target of 387 runs. Harbhajan, Amit Mishra took 3 wickets each while Zaheer Khan took 2 wickets.

India replied well as Sehwag hit 68 balls 83 runs with 11 fours and 4 sixes and needs 256 more runs with 9 wickets in hand in 90 overs. Gautam Gambhir is playing on 41 with out of form Rahul Dravid on 2 runs.

So be ready for an exciting day of cricket on the 5th and final day of first cricket match as both team will play for a win at Chennai from 9.30 AM IST.

India beat England easily by 6 wickets in the 5th ODI at on Wednesday, 26th November, 2008. India won the toss and invited England to bat first in the day-night game. England scored 270 in 50 overs but India chased easily with 38 balls remaining.

England shown their best batting performance of the series, scored 270 runs in 50 overs thanks to Kavin Pietersen's century, scored 111 unbeaten runs off 128 balls with 10 fours and 1 six well supported by Collingwood and Owais Shah 40 and 66 not out runs respectively.

India started brilliantly wit an opening partnership of 136 runs between Sehwag and Tendulkar, scored 91 off just 73 balls with 15 fours and 1 six and 50 runs respectively. But 2 wickets in 2 balls put England back in the game but 94 runs partnership between Dhoni and Raina, scored 50 and 53 runs respectively take India home for the 5-0 lead in the 7 match series.

In a thrilling shortened 5th ODI between India beat England by 40 runs in a day-night game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Sunday, 23rd November, 2008. Match shortened to 22 overs due to rain India made 166/4 in alloted overs and set a target of 198 runs in 22 overs for England as per rules.

India after invited to bat first started well by Tendulkar and Sehwag. Tendulkar went early and after lot of rains in the middle and cut of overs Sehwag played brilliantly with Gambhir scored 79 runs contributed 69 runs and 40 runs respectively. Yuraj also contributed with 25 off just 11 balls and Yusuf Pathan hit last ball six for his 1 ball he played.

England got a revised target of 198 runs in 22 overs to win the match and stay in series started aggressively by Owais Shah who promoted at no. 3 Shah made 72 runs off 48 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Flitoff also hit 41 off 30 balls but after that England not able to maintained required run rate, and at the end made 178/8, but they fought well
